Selected to perform repeatedly at the Essentially Ellington Festival held annually at New York’s Lincoln Center

Rio’s Honors Concert Band was the first Performing Arts course ever granted Honors credit in California

Students and groups have frequently won competitions at Festivals and dozens of soloist and group awards from DownBeat Magazine, the noted jazz publication.

Rio Music graduates receive scholarships from schools across the country, including the Manhattan School of Music, NYU, the Jazz program at New School, Berklee School of Music, Miami’s Frost School of Music, USC, Oberlin, Harvard, Yale, Brown, Stanford, UCLA, and Eastman School of Music

Rio bands have traveled to perform in New York City, Japan, China, Australia, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Austria, The Czech Republic, and South Korea.

Rio hosted the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra featuring Wynton Marsalis for a concert in the Rio PAC in 2022.

Rio Bands performed at the inaugurations of Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
